Until further notice, I’m naming him Fernando Torres.

Even though it's David Villa on the wallpaper. :D

After months of hesitation, I finally went ahead and bought a netbook last weekend. It’s the Asus 1005P, and I’m really pleased with it so far. The keyboard layout might take a while to get used to though (although it’s not a particular flaw of this model). After two days of scouring Cyberzone in SM North EDSA, I ended up with what was most probably the best price for the model. I also got a Smart Bro modem, which I’ve only used for two days but has been a bit on the temperamental side–sluggish yesterday, but pretty awesome this afternoon.  But all in all my coffee afternoons have been a lot more productive now. And that’s good.

Speaking of which–on two occasions now, my friend Ned has randomly dropped by the Starbucks that I go to and found me there, even without knowing beforehand.  Haha. So it’s like my default location now? Like Chuck said, we have officially become the people we hated in college. LOL. (more…)

Today one of the girl baristas at my usual Starbucks surprised me by  bringing the coffee to my table instead of calling me to the counter (special treatment! lololol). It was way nice, but then she commented that I don’t go there often anymore.

And I thought–

–because I had already been there three times this week. They expect to see me there every day now? :’D LOL. Granted, I will probably end up spending more time there (maybe not go there more often, but just stay there longer) when I finally get my netbook.

Oh right–I NEED A NETBOOK. I suppose I’ve needed one for months now but I’ve put off buying it (for good reasons, really), but now I’m starting to feel like only having one place to write–my desktop, in my room–is starting to take its toll on my work. So now I’ve decided to buy one, and hopefully the fact that I’ll be more productive will mean that the thing will pay for itself in the long run. :D  I think I may have been subconsciously using that same excuse for my long-term caffeine dependence.

As an added bonus, when I finally buy a netbook, people may finally stop wondering whether or not I have a job and why I have the luxury of being at the mall on many a Tuesday afternoon. You see, I am no good at explaining these things. Some of the baristas already know that I work freelance, but I don’t usually get into detail about exactly what I do, so I could be a freelance drug dealer for all they  know. :D

I can’t decide which one to get though– the Asus Eee 1000HE or the 1005HA. They’re very similar inside, with mostly aesthetic differences. I’ve read that the 1005HA is sleeker and better-looking, although I’m a bit partial to the matte screen and chicklet-type keyboard of the 1000HE. The keyboard is a big deal, considering I’ll probably be typing the hell out of that thing.

Does anyone have an opinion on whether a 3-cell battery would suffice or if I should spend on the 6-cell?

Plugging! IF YOU LIKE FOOTBALL AT ALL, or at least find it remotely bemusing, do check out http://larojaaaaa.tumblr.com. It’s the humor tumblelog that I’ve made, dedicated to the Spanish National Football Team (because that team, I swear, is comedy gold).

Yes, this is precisely the sort of shit with which I amuse myself.

It’s doing pretty well in terms of ‘likes’ and reblogs considering I only made it last night, LOL. I’ll definitely be adding more material regularly.

Pfft. If there’s even so much as a drizzle in the evening, cab drivers around the city start to act like they’re the last ride out of hell. And they get away with it because there’s very little way to police the kind of douchebaggery they unleash upon passengers. It’s aggravating. Robots, anyone?

Allow me to admit up front that I’m nitpicking here. Have you seen the new Cybershot TV commercial? The one with the hyper-feminine girl and the French(?) song. The particular camera model is shock-proof, see, and Sony decides to illustrate that this way: the girl is trying to take a photo of a juggler, a wayward ball hits the camera, camera falls to the ground–good thing it’s shock-proof.

It’s fine, right? Except…

I WOULD LIKE TO MEET SOMEONE WHO IS ACTUALLY DUMB ENOUGH TO HOLD A CAMERA LIKE THIS.

Here’s from another Cybershot commercial. I know they’re just trying to make it seem all romantic and pretty and feminine and shit, but you know what, it’s possible to be romantic and pretty and feminine without being A COMPLETE MORON.

Because seriously, anyone who is enough of a bimbo to hold a camera with two fingers ought to be pummeled upside the head with it.

I’d been meaning to do this for a few days now but I’ve been totally swamped. But today I was finally able to get caught up on my work assignments, and I don’t know how else to celebrate. :’D

So here are photos of some of my favorite Spaniards (in order of whom I find most attractive, LOLOLOL). I do not own these photos, btw, just found them around the internets.

Oh, and–you’re welcome. :D

Out with it: even if Spain doesn’t win the finals, I’ve become more of a fan of theirs than of Argentina. It isn’t too easy to admire Argentina after that dismal display against Germany, where they seemed to lack not just technique but also heart.

This may be horribly biased because Messi is my favorite, but I think one of the reasons Messi couldn’t shine within the Argentinian team is that they couldn’t give him enough to work with. In Barca, Messi had incredibly smart players like Xavi and Andres Iniesta working with him. Argentina doesn’t have midfielders of the same caliber, and for the most part they had trouble even getting the ball to him.

As for the Spanish national team, these past games have shown just how smart they were as a team. They’ve survived even though Fernando Torres has yet to remember how to play football (he has an excuse, he’s still not in top form after his injury). I’ve already said enough in praise of Villa and Casillas, but again, Xavi and Iniesta are among the world’s finest. Then there’s Ramos, who I don’t even want to like because he plays kind of dirty, but I love the guy’s fire and fighting spirit, especially after that match against Paraguay, in which he kept on playing after taking a boot to the face and getting a bloody head.

And for the sake of non-football fans who don’t care about all that *points up*, here are photos (unceremoniously snatched from the FIFA website) of the Spanish national team being their silly, lovable selves. :D

David Villa scored a goal and now he’s running away from Sex Cesc Fabregas, who looks like he really, really wants to hug him.

I host my site with Philhosting.net and I must say it is The. Absolute. Worst. Thursday night I tried to log in to WP admin, just to be redirected to a frigging 404 page, because my site was down. When I tried to log in via FTP, the directory listing was displayed as EMPTY. I wanted to try their Live Support chat but of course it was offline–IT USUALLY IS–from that night all the way until yesterday afternoon (you’d think they’d have the decency to be online during fucking office hours, but no). The service wasn’t restored until Friday night, and the support ticket that I sent in with my complaint went unanswered, naturally. And there was another hours-long episode of downtime just weeks ago.

Long story short, if you ever need a web host, do NOT go with Philhosting.net.

It turns out we might to have to bring our mother in for her angioplasty earlier than we expected, since the doctor advised us not to wait any longer than a month. I’m glad there’s five of us siblings to get through these things. It could be a tough couple of months that we’re looking at, but I think we’ll be ok.

I’ve developed a bad habit of watching a lot of gory forensic stuff (does anyone else watch Bones? It’s brilliant.) and then having trouble sleeping at night. As it is with me, I have no problem watching the damn things, but when it’s time to sleep the mental images fuel my imagination, and that’s when I get spooked. And it’s not even the images of decaying and dismembered bodies (click here for creepy photo of decomp! LOLOLOL) that really freak me out–apparently I’m not an overly squeamish person–but the brutal methods of killing. It definitely makes a little harder to use the bathroom in the middle of the night. XD

Next blog entry is about football. I said I’d try to quit blogging about football but I take it back–I’m a bit stressed so I’m holding on to whatever welcome distraction I can get.  LOL

July 4th, 2010

What a night. I’m still disappointed about Argentina losing spectacularly to Germany, although to be honest I think I would have been more distraught if it had been a close match. (Say, penalty-shootout close, like how Japan and Ghana went out–that would have hurt bad.) As it was, Germany totally mopped the floor with the Argentinian team. It was horrendous to watch. I don’t understand why Maradona didn’t bring in his more experienced players even as his main men were buckling under the pressure. Of course, esto es agua pasada.

And this doesn’t change the fact that Messi is my favorite, of course. I just like him better in Barça now. LOL

Speaking of which–SPAIN WON! :D David Villa [Villa Villa, Villa Maravilla!!!] again with the only goal of the match, thanks to a GENIUS set up by Andres Iniesta. But this match has me falling ever more in love with Iker Casillas, who was again incredible, you’d think there were two or three of him guarding the goal. He’s got to the best goalkeeper of this tournament.

He also happens to be really good-looking. As a bonus.

So in the end I still have Spain as a reason to keep watching the World Cup. On one last football-related note: I’m amused, David Villa totally looks like the vocalist from this Spanish band I like, El Canto del Loco.

Separated at birth? Same person with variations in facial hair? XD

I’ll try to cut down on the football-related blogging from hereon out.

I kind of can’t stand it when people apologize for something that they said, claiming that they “didn’t mean anything” by it. If you didn’t mean anything, you wouldn’t have said anything.

Related matter:  I’m trimming my online contacts mostly to people I’ve met in real life. I’d thought to do so earlier–although for a somewhat different reason–and I’ve been told that it’s better this way anyhow. All I can say is: HURF DURF.

I think I might have an ulcer coming on. I hope not, but I wouldn’t be too surprised either–my sleeping habits have been horrid and consequently my eating habits too, for instance I stay up so late that I end up sleeping through breakfast. Or worse, I stay up all night, have breakfast then wade drowsily back into my room by 10AM then sleep through lunch and snacktime, waking up at 4PM feeling dehydrated. I know I need to make a serious commitment to change this, because at this rate I’ll be having serious memory gaps by the time I’m 30.  -_-;

should have to AM GOING TO make a few things happen this week.

July 1st, 2010

Over a week without updates. Lazy blogger, tsk.

Anyway, this should explain part of it:

It's safe to say that I like Lionel Messi.

LOL hooray for replicas. :D The Barça jersey fits ok but the Argentina ones are big for me so I might get them altered–maybe. The white Messi t-shirt was the first Adidas anything I’d ever bought for myself. It’s really comfortable–so comfortable that I didn’t hesitate to buy

:D It was finally back in stock (in small) a couple of days ago, just in time for the Spain vs. Portgual match, which I watched with bated breath, literally.

And while ambling randomly around Landmark I found this adorable keychain–and it was just Php15!!! I was floored when I saw the price. :D

Cesc Fabregas isn’t my favorite or anything (although he is handsome LOL) but they only had one kind for each country, and only three or four countries, no Argentina. (Similar frustration: they had football-shaped keychains with club emblems, but no Barcelona. Pfft.) Anyway, at least Fabregas is #10.

Last night I was trying to fall asleep when I realized that I’d memorized Spain’s tactical lineup, LOLWUT. And with David Villa playing for Barcelona next season I think I’ll be watching club football after the WC. Messi and Villa in the same team OMG.

My top five: Messi, David Villa, Iker Casillas (who was ridiculously good in that last match), Xavi, and Kaká. I’d go, “Who’s yours?” but I think most of my readers aren’t into football. (Prove me wrong? Gwahahahaha.)

I’ve been really scatterbrained lately–yes, even more than usual. Between the World Cup and a blasted writer’s block that’s been grinding me down for the past two years weeks, I haven’t gotten much sleep. But it’s nothing the usual caffeine jolt can’t fix–although I’m getting ventis now, which worries me a bit *shakes*– so as long as I have enough caffeine in my bloodstream I’M FINE. :D Right? Right? *palpitates* WHO ARE YOU CALLING JITTERY?

Joke going around on Twitter:

Cristiano Ronaldo : Dios me envio a la tierra para enseñar a jugar futbol.  (God sent me to earth to show people how to play football.)
Messi: Yo nunca envié a nadie.  (I never sent anyone.)

June 23rd, 2010

If you know me personally or even though Facebook, you’d know that I’ve been nothing but football these past few weeks, investing a tremendous amount of emotion into rooting for my favorite, Argentina, and my second pick, Spain. Of course, I don’t want my obsession to completely alienate anyone, so here–for the sake of people who are not into the sport–I’ll shut up and just post photos of extremely hot men.

Who just so happen to be football players. :D

(Of course, if you are a dude who is not into the sport, and not into looking at pictures of beautiful men, then I HAVE NOTHING TO OFFER YOU HERE. Shoo.)

Just because I need a teaser to go before the jump: let’s start with…
David Villa
